Torrey Pines Golf Course

One of the bride’s favorite childhood hikes.

The cliffs and canyons of Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve protect one of the most fragile ecosystems in the country, including Pinus torreyana, the rarest pine in the United States. Once more widespread, it now survives in only two places: here and on Santa Rosa Island.

Beyond the trees, the reserve safeguards one of Southern California’s last salt marshes and waterfowl refuges, preserving a landscape that feels both ancient and improbably intact.

The trail is about a 1–1.5 hr walk uphill on mostly paved roads, meanders downhill through the reserve, and finally lands on Torrey Pines Beach.

Bride’s Recommendation: Her top choice for new visitors to the area!

Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve Hike

One of the bride’s frequented childhood beaches.

Torrey Pines State Beach in San Diego offers sandy shores for swimming, surfing, and hiking adjacent to the scenic Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, featuring trails with ocean views, tide pools, and cliffs.

Paid parking available at North and South Beach lots, plus facilities like restrooms and showers.

Bride’s Recommendation: Walk along the beach at sunset for a beautiful view

Torrey Pines Beach

One of the bride’s frequented childhood beaches.

The beach in Del Mar is one of the most beautiful and enjoyable in San Diego.

The two+ miles of sandy beach offers a great place to relax, walk, or run.

Two coastal parks, Powerhouse and Seagrove Parks, are located just above the 15th Street surf break; providing a great spot to picnic with friends and family.

Bride’s Recommendation: Hang out at the 15th street beach for a very family-friendly vibe with your kids, head down toward 17th-20th street for a more secluded experience, or head to 29th Street for Dog Beach!

Del Mar Beach

One of the bride’s frequented childhood hang-out spots.

Del Mar Village is a picturesque seaside community known for its "Village by the Sea" atmosphere.

Del Mar blends a historic Hollywood retreat vibe with European-style charm and casual coastal sophistication. The heart of the village is centered around Camino Del Mar and 15th Street, where you'll find a walkable collection of independent boutiques, award-winning restaurants, and scenic parks overlooking the Pacific.

Bride’s Recommendation: Visit the original Board & Brew location for a really great sandwich.

Del Mar Village

The Bride’s favorite tourist location in all of San Diego.

Good for both adults and families alike, visit with kids or without and it’s just as fun either way.

The San Diego Zoo is widely considered one of the most famous and innovative zoological parks in the world. Located within the historic Balboa Park, it spans 100 acres and is managed by the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance.

The zoo is not just a tourist attraction; it is a global leader in wildlife preservation. Their Wildlife Alliance has helped reintroduce over 40 endangered species back into the wild, including the California condor and the giant panda. The zoo is divided into several "bioclimatic" zones that recreate natural habitats.

Quick Facts:

  • Total Animals: Over 12,000 rare and endangered animals.

  • Species: Approximately 650+ species and subspecies.

  • Botanical Garden: The zoo is also an accredited botanical garden with more than 700,000 individual plants.

  • Legacy: Founded in 1916, it was a pioneer of "cageless" exhibits that use moats and natural barriers instead of bars.

Ways to Explore:

  1. Walking to enjoy the scenery of animals and native plants.

  2. Guided Bus Tour: A 35-minute narrated tour that covers about 70% of the zoo.

  3. Skyfari® Aerial Tram: An overhead gondola lift that provides a "bird's eye view" and a shortcut from one end of the park to the other.

  4. Kangaroo Express Bus: A hop-on, hop-off bus with four stops around the park.

Bride’s Recommendation: Enjoy popcorn for the whole family and grab beers for the adults while you walk around and enjoy the animals. Also, the pandas are back! If you intend to see the pandas, it’s best to arrive early when the park opens and head directly there to avoid lines.

The San Diego Zoo

La Jolla Shores

The Bride’s favorite place to kayak in San Diego.

La Jolla Shores is a mile-long stretch of sandy beach and a charming residential community often described as the "gem" of La Jolla.

"The Shores" is known for its wide, flat beach and gentle waves, the beach is widely considered one of the safest and most versatile in San Diego, making it the premier destination for families and beginner athletes.

The "downtown" area of the Shores is centered on Avenida de la Playa. It has a more relaxed, "flip-flop friendly" vibe.

Bride’s Recommendation: For a high-end boutique feel, stop off at La Jolla Village for shopping, art galleries, and finer dining experiences on the way to or from The Shores.

La Jolla Cove

The Bride’s favorite place to see ocean wildlife in San Diego.

La Jolla Cove is a picturesque, small, circular beach tucked between sandstone cliffs in the La Jolla community of San Diego. Known as "the jewel" of the city, it is one of the most photographed locations in Southern California and serves as a major hub for marine life observation and outdoor recreation.

The Cove is part of the Matlahuayl State Marine Reserve and the San Diego-La Jolla Underwater Park, which spans 6,000 acres.

Bride’s Recommendation: Visit to gaze upon the California sea lions, which are native to the area. They can frequently seen sunbathing on the bluffs at Point La Jolla or swimming in the water. Visitors can hear their loud barking from the boardwalk above.

Downtown Gaslamp Quarter

Home of the Bride’s favorite SD nightlife establishment: The Tipsy Crow

The Gaslamp Quarter is a 16-block historic district in downtown San Diego, serving as the city's primary hub for nightlife, dining, and entertainment. “The Gaslamp,” as its referred to by locals, is the epicenter of San Diego’s social scene, boasting over 100 restaurants, pubs, and nightclubs.

It is characterized by its well-preserved Victorian-era architecture juxtaposed with modern skyscrapers, creating a vibrant urban atmosphere that shifts from a family-friendly tourist spot by day to a high-energy playground by night.

Located on the edge of the district, Petco Park, frequently rated baseball’s number 1 ballpark, this world-class ballpark is home to the San Diego Padres and hosts major concerts and events.

The Gaslamp is also home to the famous Comi-Con at the San Diego Convention Center.

Bride’s Recommendation: Visit one of the rooftop lounge offering panoramic views of the downtown skyline and Petco Park.

Cabrillo National Monument

The Bride’s triathlon bike route in high school.

In 1542, Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo climbed out of his boat and onto shore, becoming the first European to set foot on what is now the West Coast of the United States. Cabrillo National Monument not only tells the story of this 16th-century exploration but also houses a wealth of cultural and natural resources. Join us and embark on your own Voyage of Exploration.

Bride’s Recommendation: Visit during the early afternoon on a clear day to see a beautiful view of the San Diego skyline. It is widely considered one of the best vantage points in the city.

Groom’s Recommendation: Bring your binoculars up to Cabrillo Point and then stop off in Point Loma after, both great for birding!

Hotel Del Coronado

Last but not least: The Bride’s favorite place in all of San Diego!

The Hotel del Coronado is a legendary oceanfront resort situated on the pristine sands of Coronado Island. Often referred to as "The Del," it is celebrated as one of the most iconic landmarks in the United States.

Completed in 1888, the hotel is a masterpiece of Victorian architecture and remains one of the largest all-wood buildings in the country. Blending timeless Victorian elegance with a relaxed, upscale beach vibe, The Del was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977 and has hosted numerous presidents, royalty, and Hollywood legends.

Bride’s Recommendation: Visit for drinks at the outdoor bar or ice cream at the ice cream shoppe and enjoy the white, Coronado sands not found anywhere else in San Diego.
